Smart Power NZ’s journey began in Motueka. The business quickly earned a reputation for friendly, reliable service and high quality components. In 2024, ownership passed to Karina and Michael Oliver, who relocated the company to Waipū while maintaining the same trusted parts – including Bafang, Shimano, Kenda, Tektro and Zoom – along with direct-from-importer pricing to keep e-biking attainable for more New Zealanders.

We purchased our Cherokee Chief E bikes four years ago and have done 1500 kms on them trouble free (except for a flat tyre) we have traveled around both islands and have had so much fun on them.

I’m now coming up 50,000 on my Cherokee Chief. I bike most days if it’s fine. It takes me one and a half hours per ride and I usually do about 36 km a trip. I like riding the Cherokee Chief because you sit up straight and you can see all the scenery around you.
